Kikoi

A kikoi (also spelled kikoy) is a traditional East African woven cotton fabric that originated along the Swahili Coast, particularly in Kenya and Tanzania.

A typical kikoi has these characteristics:

• Material: Made from 100% cotton or a cotton blend, making it lightweight, breathable, and soft.
• Design: Features bold horizontal or vertical stripes, often in vibrant colors such as blue, red, green, yellow, orange, or black. Many have contrasting color combinations.
• Finish: The edges are usually finished with hand-tied or woven fringes (tassels).
• Texture: Smooth and lightweight with a flat weave, ideal for warm climates.
• Size: Generally around 100 × 170 cm (39 × 67 inches), though sizes can vary.
